Disney Subliminal Messages

On February 19th 2009, The Official Subliminal Messaging Blog revealed one of Disney’s strategies to grab its consumers’ attention. To do so, they reported a virtual interview in which they exposed the controversial side of Disney’s marketing strategies in order to expand their range clients . As a matter of fact, the entertainment company has recourse to subliminal messages (defined in the article). It also states that almost all their picture productions contain at least one instance of this type of hidden message. Among the many examples given throughout the article, the Lion King is probably one of the most relevant of them. Indeed, the interviewed person said that in the scene where Simba remembers his father on a cliff top, the word “SEX” is formed in the clouds above his head. A picture is inserted so as we can refer to the instance. Finally, the article leaves us with the knowledge that Disney took away its subliminal messages from its DVDs due to public controversy. The author also ends his article by divulging other possible ways of using subliminal messages.

Manipulation in marketting (article summary)

(Click on the picture to view it fully)

The article “Advertisements-manipulation of innocent people” basically talks about the growth of advertisement. These days, advertisements are everywhere; magazines, new papers, TVs and radios stations. The advertising industry is growing at a very quick paste and is used to create certain awareness and inform the consumer about the variety of products that is available on the market. Therefore, today, advertisements aren’t informative but much more persuasive then before. Marketing companies only want to convince consumers to buy their products. Consumers are becoming more and more naïve. For example, young women or teenagers see beautiful ladies on TV or in magazines and think they can look as perfect as them. But they have been successfully manipulated. Women and men in magazines have been so digitally retouched that it isn’t their image anymore! They have been completely transformed. Marketing companies play with the emotional and psychological side of consumers. They know how perfect they want to be and they are ready to do more and more to attract the most consumers possible. Finally, marketing companies use more and more manipulative strategies through out TV, magazines, radio stations and more to attract the most consumers possible. Stéphanie Bél

The truth about 'Stairway to heaven'

This video discusses the possibility of subliminal messages in the song ‘Stairway to heaven’ by the Sex pistols. A part of the song is played as the lyrics are shown for us to follow. But then it is played backwards, this time with the satanic lyrics the song contains. Later on, the video creator is heard singing the song himself. He then plays it backwards, and we can still hear the satanic lyrics. He ends his article by affirming that some of the controversial lyrics that are heard when the song is played backwards were intentionally inserted in the song.

The death of Mass Consumptiom (article summary)

Age of Responsible Consumerism Begins

Matt Thornhill, Times-Dispatch Columnist
Published: December 25, 2008

Summary

According to many people, mass consumerism is now dead.
In his article, Matt Thornhill exposes the fact that for many American families, Christmas’ beauty isn’t about presents and money at all, but about happiness and friendship.
In fact, consumers of all ages are reducing their consumption of goods and services, especially the Baby Boomers, who “put mass in consumption”. As they grew older, they shifted focus from material to more spiritual end ethereal values.
Furthermore, the fact that, the largest demographic group of the American society is now buying less, poses an extraordinary trend toward sustainability. People are now more aware of what they buy and they concentrate on the impacts their consumption has on the environment.
Finally, the worst recession since the great depression of the thirties in which the American society just passed through encourages the death of mass consumption.
However, some say that baby boomers have dominated the consumer market for the past five decades and even if they are reaching a certain age, they will probably continue this way until 2016. In fact, by saving their money rather than spending it, they are transmitting new values to the future generations and this brings the panic of governments who are desperately trying to persuade people into a consumer lifestyle. According to the writer, it is probably too late, and the future of consumerism won’t be built at all on buying always more but on thinking before we do so.
